📂 Upgrade from Portals 95 ▬ □ ✕

Upgrading from Portals 95

If you are currently running Portals 95, you can upgrade directly to Portals 98 Second Edition. The upgrade preserves your soul files, settings, and Portals 95-compatible soulware.

Upgrade Instructions:

  1. Back up all soul files to 3.5" floppy disks (you will need approximately 400 floppies for a standard soul collection)
  2. Insert the Portals 98 installation CD-ROM
  3. Run D:\SETUP.EXE from the CD-ROM drive
  4. Select "Upgrade" when prompted
  5. Wait for installation to complete (estimated time: 45-90 minutes depending on soul count)
  6. Restart your terminal when prompted
  7. Crypty will greet you. This is expected.
💡 Note on third-party soulware: During the upgrade process, some third-party soul applications may be flagged as "incompatible" and removed. In most cases, equivalent MicroSoul Corp soulware has been pre-installed as a replacement. This is a convenience feature.
